Right now North Carolina growers are shipping over 4 million poinsettias to state and national markets.  These plants are photoperiodic, meaning the longer winter nights turn some of their leaves from green to red.  Growers carefully schedule their plantings to ensure poinsettias color up at the right time.  I interview a grower and a researcher who is looking for ways to expand this plant’s market.
